Aren't you excited I decided to write another crappy tutorial?
Let's start on with the real thing shall we?
I HAVE AN ART BLOCK!!!! NOW WHAT?!
We all hate art blocks, they're awful, they should die and go to hell...but they happen, and sometimes quite often.
One thing you could do is go into hiatus while you're suffering from it, but then, some of us loose practice and it's harder to start again.
"So yeah, any tips or are you gonna keep writing about stuff we already now?"
. . . h u m . . .
- Draw things you love, that you feel passionate about. When you do something that makes you feel good and happy, some inspiration is bound to come...unless it really is a huge crisis and you're suffering with one of those elephant like art blocks, but believe me, it will help you.
- Browse the internet for inspiration on art / photography websites, I recommend Deviantart, my favorite, but MangaBullet is also excellent if you're into that kind of thing like me (I presume you are since you are visiting a blog of a manga artist wannabe). Searching for inspiration from artists is not wrong at all, now, there is a BIG difference with feeling inspired by someone else's artwork and copying it / trace it. Copying and tracing is art theft, it's and awful thing to do...seriously, don't even think about it...NEVER!
- Draw fanart. There are a lot of people that are against fanart, I can see why, but I do not agree with them. Fanart is suppose to be a way to show love for the things you love and inspire you, however, drawing fanart to become famous is an ugly thing to do. I draw fanart because I love it, because I love to draw things I like, and if someone else likes it as well, why not sharing it with the world? Just remember, drawing fanart is not copying the original author's drawing and saying you did it all by yourself, at least admit you used a reference; but, you can do that for practice, even tough, if you're practising anatomy you should use real references, other artists sometimes change / deform the anatomy to better suit the picture's mood.
- Practice something you're not really good at. If you really can't think of anything new to draw, spend the duration of the art block practising your weaknesses, if you're anatomy is not really that good...practice it! If your skill at drawing eyes needs a little more polishing...practice it! You get the point...right?
- Brainstorm. Brainstorming is one of the best things, that is, for me, when I really can't come up with anything at all. You can either come up with something really weird or something really awesome...and there's always the in-between of course.
- Read a book you always wanted to read, watch TV, read some Manga / BD, watch some anime, go out for a walk, just do something purely because you feel like it, relaxing is important for a stressed, art blocked artist.
- Do simple requests / commissions / art trades. If you can't think of anything by yourself, let someone else do it for you, and if you are really good at it, you're even getting paid! I'm kidding, but seriously, if any of the previous ideas doesn't satisfies your mind, then give it a try, you might be surprised and cure your art block...or not.
I hope this tutorial (not really a tutorial but whatever) has helped you to kill that evil monster we call Art Block...or at least to make it less painful. I'll be glad to see you next time on another try of one of my failed tutorials wannabe.
